Welcome to your Annual ECDIS Competency Assurance Training, or ECDIS ACAT as it is better known.

Update version 4.1 for 2019

This course was designed to ensure Officers are competent in the key operations of their ECDIS.

The course is specific to the ECDIS they have out of the 42 current manufacturers of ECDIS.

It was produced in conjunction with the top 20 questions used for inspections designed by ECDIS Ltd and is now updated to the 2019/2020 question bank.

It ensures that the officers are:

Up to date every year with any changes to the make and model of the ECDIS onboard,
Understand the key functions for safe navigation,
Prepared for PSC or an independent audit or inspection,
Refreshed annually in their knowledge of key menus and operational capability of the ECDIS,
Company compliant in ECDIS through annual assessments.

The course takes between 30 and 60 minutes on average and may require the seafarer to have direct access to their ECDIS to help answer some of the questions that they must all pass to receive their certificate.

The course modules are:

Familiarisation
Navigation Tools
Route Planning
Route Monitoring
Chart Updating

The training modules display the actual make and model, with the aim of highlighting the key menus and functions through `interactive visual aids`, which are activated by the operator and cross checked on the ECDIS onboard.

On screen text is kept to a minimum as the aim of ECDIS ACAT is to provide evidence that the operator is competent in their use of ECDIS.

Regardless of where or when previous ECDIS training has taken place, this course is designed to consolidate their knowledge.

Ship Management of this process is simple, as each Crew/Guest/Contractors/Visitors completes the course it will show next to their name.

The cost of each Type of ECDIS ACAT is £500 (+ VAT if applicable) per hull, per year. The number of officers that can complete the course is unlimited.

Welcome to your Annual Proficiency For Ship Security Officer

Competency Assurance Training, or SSO ACAT as it is better known.

This training course is intended to meet the requirements set out in Regulation VI/5 and Section A-VI/5 of the STCW Code and relevant UK legislation and is based on the MCA / MNTB ship security officer specifications.

The Proficiency For Ship Security Officer course modules are:

Maritime Security Policy
Security Responsibilities
Ship Security Assessment
Security Equipment
Ship Security Plan
Threat Identification, Recognition and Response
Ship Security Actions
Emergency Preparedness, Drills and Exercises
Security Administration

Upon successful completion of the training candidates will receive an emaritme approved certificate of Proficiency for Ship Security Officers.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Those undertaking this STCW 2010 training course must have either:

Approved seagoing service of 12 months or more

On completion of the training, trainees are will have the underpinning knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of a Ship Security Officer.
