ECDIS Generic Annual Competency Assurance Training 2018

Welcome to your Annual ECDIS Competency Assurance Training, or ECDIS ACAT as it is better known.

This course was designed to ensure Officers are competent in the key operations of their ECDIS.

The course is designed to refresh yourself with the ECDIS Generic course.

It ensures that the officers understand:

  1. Operate the ECDIS equipment, use the navigational functions of ECDIS, select and assess all relevant information and take proper action in the case of a malfunction.
  2. State the potential errors of displayed data and the usual errors of interpretation.
  3. Explain why ECDIS should not be relied upon as the sole reliable aid to navigation.

The course takes between 1 to 2 days on average, and may require the seafarer to have direct access to their ECDIS to help answer some of the questions that they must all pass to receive their certificate.

  10. Route Planning
  11. Route Monitoring
  12. Chart Updating
  13. Sensors
  14. Errors and Alarms
  15. Voyage Data Recording
  16. Backup Systems
  17. Confined Waters Planning
  18. Poistion Fixing
  19. Consolidation Test

Regardless of where or when previous ECDIS training has taken place, this course is designed to consolidate their knowledge.

Ship Management of this process is simple, as each officer completes the course the company will see a green light next to their name.  Once all officers have completed the course the vessel will turn `Green`.

The cost of each Type of ECDIS ACAT is £500(+ VAT if applicable) per hull, per year. The number of officers that can complete the course is unlimited.
